Nutanix CEO: Firms Will Ditch the 'Token Tax' by Running Open-Weight Models on Neoclouds

Nutanix CEO Rajiv Ramaswami doubled down on his long-running thesis in a Fortune interview:
- More enterprises will seek to avoid the "token tax" of frontier labs like OpenAI by running open-weight models on rented or on-premise infrastructure.
- B-tier clouds — CoreWeave, Nebius — are positioned to benefit from this neocloud wave, and Nutanix's software for multi-tenant server utilization makes it a beneficiary too.
Fortune's Tiernan Ray notes the trend, if it materializes, would materially affect the finances and valuations of OpenAI and peers.
