Developer BumrahBachi quotes his own February tweet to declare "the music has stopped": after adopting Codex, he spends 95% of his time reviewing code rather than writing it.

He argues complex specialized subfields remain and last-mile automation is still hard, but being a generic software engineer is likely over — and without substantial capital, physical work, or a job at OpenAI/Anthropic, careers face diminishing meaning.
