ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all go down simultaneously as thousands hit outages

OpenAI, Anthropic and Google suffered service problems at roughly the same time on Thursday. OpenAI reported elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex; Anthropic saw elevated errors across multiple Claude models (Opus 5, 4.8, 4.6) and said it identified the cause; Google's Gemini API was degraded for some developer/API users, with AI Studio flagging issues serving newly created API keys. Thousands of users were affected, and the near-simultaneous outages drew jokes about a "coordinated pause."
