AI safety researcher David Krueger rejects Dean Ball's apology over 'doomer' smear campaign
DavidSKrueger · x · 2026-09-04
Cambridge professor David Krueger defends his criticism of Dean Ball despite pushback that it discourages admissions of error. He cites 12+ years warning of AI extinction risk and initiating the 2023 Statement on AI Risk, argues "doomer" was coined to smear those concerns, and says Ball knowingly joined the smear campaign for credibility and power — an apology that doesn't convince him. "There are bad faith actors in this space," he writes.
