Runway launches GWM Worlds 2, a real-time playable world model at 720p/24fps
Tkins · reddit · 2026-09-04
Runway announced GWM Worlds 2, a research preview of real-time interactive world simulation built on its audio-visual foundation model.
- Real-time generation: continuous 720p/24fps video plus 48kHz audio reacting to user movement, dialogue, and weather changes rather than pre-scripted clips
- WorldPrompt system: a persistent world context (genesis prompt + reference frame) combined with a timestamped event stream controlling camera and in-world actions
- Architecture: an autoregressive diffusion video/audio model conditioned on global context, frame-level actions, and past frames via a sliding KV-cache window
- Three modes: Ahead-of-Time (scripted directing), Turn-Based (decision points), and Real-Time (keybinding control)
- Multiplayer & authoring: LiveKit-based multi-role sessions and an LLM assistant that drafts presets and keybindings
- Limitations: fidelity trade-offs, geometry/texture drift on fast camera moves, and missing state tracking for complex interactions
