Google, working with HHMI's Janelia Research Campus, has completed the first full map of an adult male fruit fly's brain and central nervous system. AI was used to fuse millions of 2D images into 3D neural shapes, reconstructing a record-breaking 166,000+ neurons. As a key model organism, this foundational connectome is a major neuroscience milestone that could accelerate brain research.
