DeepMind launches WeatherNext 3: hourly-refresh AI weather forecasts at 5km resolution
Google DeepMind · youtube · 2026-09-03
Google DeepMind unveiled WeatherNext 3, an AI weather model that learns directly from live satellite and ground-station observations instead of numerical simulation. Key specs: hourly forecast refresh (vs 6 hours for traditional models), native 5km resolution for temperature and humidity, 100m wind-speed and cloud/radiation variables for wind and solar planning, and global coverage. It's already live in Google Search, Gemini and Google Maps, with an accompanying paper published.
