- Cognition engineer Eric Lu announced the factorization of RSA-260, a 260-digit (862-bit) number from the RSA Factoring Challenge that had stood unfactored for 35 years.
- He posted one of the two prime factors directly on X so anyone could verify the division.
- He reportedly sampled and tested random primes by hand over about 7 months, breaking the record set by RSA-250 (829-bit) in 2020.
- Wikipedia's RSA numbers page was updated within minutes of the announcement.
