Developer zzznah argued that nand2teris — building a computer from NAND gates up to an OS — should be obligatory for anyone seriously studying CS, echoing SebAaltonen's point that CS majors increasingly don't understand how computers work.

SebAaltonen noted that C/C++ to assembly translation is easy to grasp with tools like Compiler Explorer showing the exact instructions a machine executes, while Python sits too far from the hardware to build that mental model.
