Only 1% of 379 L&D job postings are junior — AI is erasing the entry-level rung

L&D expert Philippa Hardman analyzed 379 live instructional-design job ads in the UK & US (June–August 2026): only 4 were junior roles, about 1%, with 28 senior postings for every junior one — versus 37% entry-level share at large US employers in 2025 (LinkedIn Economic Graph).

It fits the emerging hypothesis that AI absorbs junior knowledge work first, already seen in law (first-draft contracts) and software (routine tickets), and now in L&D. Scholar Matt Beane notes many are independently converging on this "novice optional" finding he documented starting in 2018 — and calls the trend troubling.
