Hugging Face announces 'joining forces' with NVIDIA, staying independent
_akhaliq · x · 2026-09-03
Hugging Face co-founder Julien Chaumond officially announced the startup is "joining forces" with NVIDIA (crossing out 'acquiring'). He frames it as an inflection point: open source AI will either fade as closed labs run away with it or become the foundational fabric of the next phase of civilization. Given Jensen Huang's defense of open source AI earlier in the summer, NVIDIA was the only partner they truly considered. Hugging Face will remain an independently run, neutral platform, with the deal fueling its mission of making AI accessible to as many people as possible.
