X suffered a large-scale password-recovery attack targeting hundreds of thousands of users, prompting a federal investigation joined by the DOJ Civil Rights Division.
AG Todd Blanche says X stopped the operation before attackers could capture the targeted accounts. The attack first surfaced as unexpected password resets; the perpetrators have not been identified.
