Cosmos Institute announced its largest grantee cohort to date: 80 new grantees from 16 countries, building prototypes for AI that supports human autonomy or truth-seeking in partnership with FIRE. Projects range from memory-assist wearables and cryptographic tools for scientific collaboration to a benchmark based on pre-1940 thought on machine autonomy. Among them, grantee @dafraile is building Quorum, a clinical decision-making deliberation tool that brings in several AI archetypes each with its own voice, letting clinicians learn and choose what to take or dismiss. Past cohort projects have grown into companies, nonprofits, and papers at venues like ICML, COLM, and IEEE.
