Meta Ends Tokenmaxxing Performance Grading While Pushing Hatch Agent, WIRED Reports
Hesamation · x · 2026-09-03
Meta told employees this week that performance reviews will no longer depend on AI tool usage, effectively ending its tokenmaxxing incentive program, WIRED reports.
Background: About a year ago Meta graded workers on "AI-driven impact," with usage correlating to labels like "AI Native" or "AI First"; in July, about two dozen employees sued alleging discriminatory May layoffs, saying those on leave couldn't accumulate usage and were penalized (Meta denies it). New guidance drops usage-based criteria, saying outcomes "can be supported by AI or other means." Meanwhile, workers are testing Hatch, Meta's most advanced agentic AI tool, and token consumption keeps surging.
