Utopia: open-source bi-temporal knowledge graph for enterprise AI memory
aigclink · x · 2026-09-03
Utopia is an open-source intelligent memory system for enterprises that makes knowledge evolution traceable.
- Pain point: traditional updates overwrite old state — if Zhang's title changes from "manager" to "director," six months later you can't answer audit questions about what it was at decision time
- Solution: bi-temporal knowledge graph — every fact carries two timestamps (valid time: when it held in the real world; record time: when the system learned it). Updates mark old versions as ended and link to new ones, keeping objective and epistemic timelines separate
- Use cases: compliance audits, finance, and retaining departed employees' project docs, decision rationale and networks
- Simple deployment: one Rust program + PostgreSQL, with full-text search, vector storage and task queues built in — no Elasticsearch, vector service or message queue
