A researcher claiming to work toward general intelligence argues community AGI discourse is confused: LLM inference is temporary computation over context, with fixed parameters, and in-context adaptation never becomes durable experience. Continuous existence between interactions is only the first of at least five hurdles in his framework, followed by building harnesses to test general causal thinking. LLMs have generality of knowledge and competence, he says, but generality of adaptation remains unestablished — we're nowhere close to AGI.
