World #1 Shin Jin-seo (9-dan) came back to beat top Go engine KataGo 2-1 in a three-match official series played at a two-stone handicap — the first human to beat a state-of-the-art Go AI under that margin, considered the absolute boundary of human competition.
Shin sealed the decider with black in 221 moves, winning by 11.5 points in 3h5m. He said copying AI moves early cost him games; the key insight was building positions in his own style rather than imitating AI.
