Go legend Shin Jin-seo beats AI KataGo 2-1 with two-stone handicap in historic first

World No.1 Go player Shin Jin-seo, 26, completed a 2-1 comeback against top Go engine KataGo in an official three-match series hosted by The Korea Economic Daily, becoming the first human to beat a state-of-the-art Go engine in an official series under a two-stone handicap — considered the edge of human competitiveness. He won the deciding game by 11.5 points in 221 moves playing black, after a heavy loss in game one. Shin said copying AI moves led to early defeats; building positions in his own style proved far more important, and the series shows humans can still hold their own against AI.
