Lablup has joined the PyTorch Foundation as a Silver Member. Its open-source platform Backend.AI handles GPU orchestration and virtualization, with CEO Jeongkyu Shin framing the move as giving back to the open-source ecosystem.
Backend.AI targets enterprise GPU underutilization: its Fractional GPU partitioning works with all NVIDIA GPUs at under 5% overhead, claiming utilization gains from 30% to 85%, plus 4-tier multi-tenancy and dynamic allocation. The company also recently shipped mlxcel, an open-source inference engine for Apple Silicon, and a FuriosaAI RNGD whitepaper.
