Stripe launches Directory preview to help AI agents find and use external providers
jeff_weinstein · x · 2026-09-03
- Stripe released Stripe Directory in public preview: developers and AI agents can search by keyword to find the best external provider for a task and follow its supported integration path — e.g. stripe directory search "web browsing api" lists Browserbase, You.com, Exa, Firecrawl with details on Machine Apps, MCP, and Payments support.
- Jeff Weinstein quoted a discussion arguing that viral agents do things end-to-end instead of handing back a todo list: his agent first told him to use Google Forms himself, then burned tokens coding an unhostable form, before one-shotting the task via a proper tool. His takeaway: "agents calling tools (rather than floundering around rebuilding the world) is so powerful, efficient, and fun."
