Prominent AI critic Gary Marcus says he is increasingly confident that by the end of the decade, generative AI as we know it will be viewed as, on balance, a tragic and costly mistake. He hopes this won't stop the search for better — technically and politically — ways of doing AI that are more net-positive for society.
