fortune · reddit · 2026-09-03
Per Fortune, the DoD is providing military versions of ChatGPT (ChatGPT Mil) and Grok to its 3 million military and civilian workers via its bespoke platform GenAI.mil, which launched in December with a military Gemini and already counts 1.7M users.
The rollout follows defense contracts worth up to $200M each for OpenAI and xAI, with Google and Anthropic also awarded contracts. ChatGPT Mil is part of OpenAI for Government, launched last summer.
