Replying to Sutskever's AI warnings: the real threat is bad IT ops, not open source
mikewarot · x · 2026-09-02
User mikewarot pushes back on Ilya Sutskever's and janleike's open-source risk warnings with a different threat model: the real danger is bad IT administration and the lack of air-gaps and data diodes — not open source or superintelligent AI.
He asks why attackers would bother hacking systems if open source were the threat, when they can simply buy compute, cites recent incidents as proof that external systems and open source aren't the key risk, and adds that Tanenbaum was right about microkernels and better OS models.
