Design lead ships 12 PRs in a week: AI is erasing the designer-engineer gap

A design lead argues the designer role is fundamentally shifting: drawing pretty rectangles in Figma no longer cuts it. With AI, top designers can now write better front-end code than many engineers — he personally contributed 12 PRs last week while managing a design team.
He also noticed many PMs and engineers have a better design eye than actual designers; they just lacked tools to translate their vision. His takeaway: the gap in individual technical ability is closing fast, and creativity, passion, and problem-solving are what matter going forward.
