Anthropic's Fable 5.1 claimed 45% savings, but Max users burn limits in under an hour

Anthropic launched Fable 5.1 on Sept 1 with cheaper cache reads and claimed up to 45% savings on agentic work. But multiple Max subscribers report blowing through session limits in 20-60 minutes doing regular coding and audit work in Claude Code. Theo says cache writes still eat 65%+ of his usage cost, and Jeffrey Emanuel says he exhausted 28 separate Max accounts' 5-hour limits in a single day for the first time ever. Anthropic hasn't clarified whether this is a bug or just how Fable 5.1 pricing works for heavy users — I'd wait before calling it a cost-cutting win.
