Three things every AI chat UI is missing: tags, real search, and dates
Soulflier76 · reddit · 2026-09-02
A heavy AI user argues every major chat interface, ChatGPT included, lags where it matters most—retrieval:
- Tags: conversations span multiple topics; folder-style Projects force single placement. Gmail-style labels would fix this overnight; keyword-stuffed titles are a workaround.
- Search: ChatGPT can identify a half-remembered book from 2019 but can't find your own chat from last month—per-user indexing is expensive, but the gap is stark.
- Dates & model attribution: switching models mid-thread produces transcripts that read as one voice; turns should be labeled for provenance.
Chat history is becoming the user's most valuable working archive—and the least findable one.
