Gobano Releases Toutatis v1: Self-Teaching RL Engine with Minimal Demos

Gobano Robotics has released Toutatis v1, a reinforcement learning engine designed to bridge the gap between "it works" and production-grade reliability in robotics.
Core Problem:
- A 95% success rate policy fails 50 times per 1,000 cycles.
- Even a strong lab result at 99% fails 10 times, while production aims for roughly zero failures.
- Human demonstrations cannot close this gap as they teach what a person did, not what maximizes success rate or eliminates rare failures.
Technical Approach:
- Trains a task-specific world model from the same demonstrations.
- Freezes the visual encoder and caches embeddings.
- Reinforcement learning operates on this compact latent state instead of backpropagating through the full visual model, significantly boosting training efficiency.
