A data-driven critique of AI regulation: last year the US produced 40 large AI foundation models, China 15, and the EU just 3; from 2019 to 2024 the EU passed roughly 13,000 legislative acts versus about 3,500 in the US, while Canada logged its first back-to-back GDP contraction since 2020. The author's jab: Brussels and Ottawa remain convinced the real problem is that nobody read the code of conduct.
