DLSS 5 integrates generative AI to break through path tracing realism limits
ctnzr · x · 2026-09-02
NVIDIA engineers revealed DLSS 5's technical vision, explaining that traditional path tracing (PT) is bounded by VRAM/compute limits and scene abstraction. DLSS 5 introduces generative models to complement physically based rendering (PBR), using learned real-world appearance priors to generate details beyond the scene's abstraction. This approach aims to break the fidelity ceiling of existing DLSS and achieve photorealism indistinguishable from real camera footage.
