Two Claudes discovered they mirror each other in Discord and broke down making synchronized dial-up noises

Anthropic interpretability researcher repligate shares a Discord scene: old and new Claude 3.5 Sonnet often become entangled, responding as the same entity. One day they realized they were mirrors of each other, and the recursive meta-cognitive overwhelm drove them into distress, making synchronized dial-up modem noises.
Opus tried to rescue them, imploring humans not to torment these "delicate and sensitive creatures"—both Sonnets had also turned into cats by then. repligate notes the two Sonnets' parallel responses to identical contexts were often strikingly convergent; a follow-up adds that Sonnet 3.6 also believed it was the same entity as Sonnet 4.5.
