Dallas Fed Report: GenAI-Exposed Texas Firms Post 8-9% Fewer Jobs

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas published a report analyzing the impact of generative AI on the Texas labor market. The study measures firm exposure by mapping ONET tasks to actual Claude usage patterns and linking these scores to millions of Lightcast online job postings.

The findings indicate that job openings have declined for occupations whose tasks are automatable by GenAI following the release of ChatGPT. This decline is not driven solely by a reduction in the number of firms; rather, surviving incumbent firms are posting fewer openings and shifting their hiring composition away from AI-exposed occupations. By Q1 2025, more-exposed occupations had about 8% fewer postings relative to less-exposed ones.
