'Poor man's AR': scale your window to a real 1cm cube and compare physical objects on screen

_Stocko_ · x · 2026-09-02

A developer shared a zero-cost "poor man's AR" trick: place a 1cm cube in your 3D scene, then zoom the window until the cube measures exactly 1cm on a ruler held against the screen. Your on-screen model is now true-to-life scale, so you can hold physical objects up to the screen and directly check curves and shapes. The author used it to sanity-check an internal angle and found it looked close.
