Research: LLM agent traces reduced to 7-43 state maps

A paper reveals that while LLM agents produce massive traces, they follow a surprisingly small behavioral graph. This graph can be reduced to a compact Finite State Machine (FSM) with just 7-43 states. This structural map predicts next moves and failures with high fidelity (0.997 fitness on 12 datasets) and suggests that agent behavior is shaped more by the harness than the LLM itself, enabling better monitoring and safety auditing.
