Perplexity built a hybrid local/cloud switch where agents plan in the cloud but execute sensitive tasks locally on Mac. A small on-device 'switch' model checks context for PII (names, addresses, etc.) before upload, allowing options to keep data local, anonymize it, or ask permission, balancing compute power with user privacy.
