World Labs CEO Fei-Fei Li discussed the necessity of world models in an interview with a16z:
- Difference from Language Models: Nature doesn't provide text, but a 3D world governed by physics. Backing out and representing this information is a fundamentally different problem.
- Conceptual Fusion: While borrowing useful ideas from LLMs, the approach is philosophically distinct.
World Labs also introduced Atlas, touted as the world's first multimodal world model that generates image and video frames with pixel-perfect camera control and reconstructs them in 3D.
