Sequoia invests $100M in Form Energy's iron-air batteries for the AI grid

Sequoia partner David Cahn announced a $100M investment in Form Energy. Founded by Mateo Jaramillo, who previously built Tesla's energy business, Form spent nearly a decade developing an iron-air battery that stores energy for days rather than hours, using iron and air — two of the cheapest inputs possible — to compete with gas peaker plants on cost. The company has built a US manufacturing base and won its first big hyperscale datacenter contract earlier this year. Cahn argues rebuilding the American grid is a prerequisite for AI to reach its full potential, and calls Form "America's battery champion."
