Google Pics takes on Canva: tap any object and describe the edit, aimed at business imagery

The Verge AI · rss · 2026-09-02

Google has launched a creative design suite for Workspace called Google Pics, aiming to make generating and editing 'professional-grade' AI images less cumbersome for businesses. Built around Gemini and the Nano Banana generative model, Pics offers granular control over prompt-based image making and manipulation — users can tap specific objects or text in an image and describe what to change, features that may avoid the ugly results chatbots are known for with marketing imagery.

Google noted AI image generation has been a hit for personal use but 'a different story' for business — exactly the gap Pics targets.
