Retiree builds local AI voice writing assistant for his blind 85-year-old novelist aunt

A recently retired user is building a local AI setup for his 85-year-old aunt, who is nearly blind from macular degeneration and has written 150+ detective and western stories over her lifetime. He bought an RTX 5080 (16GB) desktop with 32GB RAM, installed Unsloth Desktop and Gemma4, but feels out of his depth and asked for beginner guidance.

All use cases center on voice: conversation purely via voice, always-listening availability (like an Alexa), reading her stories back in a natural voice of her choosing, maintaining character/plot continuity across 150 stories, suggesting technical and stylistic edits applied consistently, and formatting for KDP publication. His current plan puts a large instruction set in the system prompt, but he's unsure how to wire up voice input, always-on listening, work logs, and file version backups.
