Three URL parameters to hide Google AI Overviews, including &sec_act=d which kills AI Mode too
Temporary-Bobcat5846 · reddit · 2026-09-01
A Reddit user collected three ways to hide Google AI Overviews via search URL parameters, settable as the default search engine:
- &udm=14: plain web results only (the classic)
- &tbs=1: hides AI Overview but keeps AI Mode in the toolbar
- &secact=d: newly discovered, fully hides AI Overview and AI Mode by making Google flag the browser as AI-incompatible
The post includes step-by-step instructions for Chrome and Firefox to set these as default engines; Safari requires an extension. The author guesses &secact=d stems from background-tab loading failing a script check and being flagged incompatible.
