Georgia Tech prof: sub-$1,000 robots are about to do for robotics what the Apple I did for PCs

Georgia Tech professor Animesh Garg compares robotics today to the personal computing renaissance sparked by the Apple I in the late 1970s: standardized, stable hardware under $1,000 gives developers a programmable platform — a "Mac Mini analog" — at a cost below a phone.
He highlights Hugging Face's Microduck, released just four days prior, with which people have already done reinforcement learning at scale and built simulators. He estimates sub-$500 toys could let high-schoolers experiment with cutting-edge RL for robotics, and is excited about the return of RL in new packaging.
