Hidden 'Skysight' in Codex logs your screen activity every 10 minutes
Which-Bandicoot5671 · reddit · 2026-09-01
A Reddit user discovered a hidden folder named skysight under memories in /.codex. With ComputerUse enabled and the GPT app open, it records your actions in detail in 10-minute increments (e.g. "User went to Safari and went to..."), supposedly to provide context for requests like "help with the doc I just had open."
More troubling: even with the "use my chats to make models better" toggle off, this data does not necessarily stay local — GPT itself could not guarantee it isn't sent to OpenAI servers. The folder's instructions.md even includes guidance on how to respond if a user asks about Skysight, indicating the behavior is by design. The takeaway: when the app is open, it is logging everything you do.
