Amazon Ring Introduces TAKE Default Encryption, Throws Away Keys
matthew_d_green · x · 2026-09-01
Amazon announced TAKE (Throw Away the Key Encryption), a new default encryption standard for Ring doorbells.
How it works:
- Ring videos are protected by unique, rotating encryption keys.
- The system delivers intelligent features like Smart Alerts and then deletes the encryption keys from a secure enclave.
- Only the user retains the keys, aiming to provide E2EE-level privacy while maintaining full feature functionality.
TAKE will roll out in phases and become the default for all Ring customers upon completion, while traditional E2EE remains an optional setting.
