Open-source virtual computer MCP gives LLMs a full desktop in your browser
Ambitious-Prompt-975 · reddit · 2026-09-01
mcp-virtual-computer is an open-source MCP server that runs a VM inside Docker and renders the desktop to your browser or MCP client, giving an LLM full computer-use abilities:
- The model can use a terminal, create/read/edit files, see the screen, click, and type
- Switch between virtual and real desktops; unplug the network cable to cut network access
- Fun detail: keystrokes from you or the model show on the keyboard, and cursor use moves the mouse on the desk
- Auto-installs Docker and prerequisites; runs via uvx mcp-virtual-computer with env options for desktop environment and network access
Available on GitHub (flujo-app/mcp-virtual-computer) and PyPI.
