Scholars propose using LLMs for pre-review in academic peer review
anderssandberg · x · 2026-09-01
A scholar proposed explicitly asking editors if they can upload the arXiv version of a manuscript to an LLM and use the AI-generated pre-review as a basis for their review, promising to take final responsibility. Most editorial offices currently reject this. Anders Sandberg endorsed the proposal, suggesting that if reviewers don't use AI, editors ought to do it.
