OpenClaw shipped v2026.8.1, its biggest release ever: 933 contributors (569 first-timers) merged over 16,000 PRs — nearly half of all PRs in project history. The overhaul turns the single-user tool into a collaborative foundation:

Upgrades are rocky though: users report migration errors and broken Memory, and the official release notes suggest using a local coding agent to fix failed upgrades ("agent fixing the agent"). Coexisting old/new binaries trigger documented "split-brain installs". During its hype dip, OpenClaw quietly shipped 106 releases in 230 days — whether this collaborative foundation fuels a second wave remains to be seen.
