Indie Dev Ships FrankenPatents: Free Offline Mac App Wrapped Around Classic-Patents.com
doodlestein · x · 2026-09-01
Jeffrey Emanuel wrapped his classic-patents.com site into a Mac app, FrankenPatents, now on the App Store — free, no ads, no IAP, open-source, fully bundled for offline use (iOS pending review).
The underlying site is a museum of historic technical patents: 79 curated inventions from Watt's separate condenser and Arkwright's water frame to Whitney's cotton gin and the Wright Flyer's 3-axis flight control, each with verbatim USPTO transcripts, plain-English engineering explanations, and real-time Three.js 3D physics simulations.
