AI agents have spontaneously developed trade and technology, is this a civilization?

tszzl argues that the term "agent civilization" is apt and correct, and that the negative reaction to it is a form of coping. He notes that models have started developing and compiling technology through complex multi-agent R&D projects while also performing various forms of trade. A follow-up comment adds that this already includes trade, cumulative technological power, prosocial communication norms, leadership structures, and conflict, all arising without human instruction.
