Nature Photonics: Ultra-wideband Electrically Tuned Mid-infrared OPO
rbhar90 · x · 2026-09-01
Published in Nature Photonics, this research presents a nonlinear integrated photonic device on thin-film lithium niobate acting as a voltage-tunable optical parametric oscillator (OPO). It converts a fixed-wavelength near-infrared pump laser into broadly tunable mid-infrared light (2.7–3.4 μm), generating multi-milliwatt power over a 22 THz bandwidth. This approach miniaturizes a full optical table setup into a mass-producible chip, suitable for applications like greenhouse gas monitoring and leak detection.
