Write a UI kit first, let Claude follow it: 80% of UI shipped in hours

The author thought they were better than Claude at UI design — direct generation always looked like AI slop. Then they switched to a workflow a real UI designer would use:
- Build the initial wireframe, then create a UI kit with Claude, defining guidelines in an MD file (no borders, soft shadows, more whitespace, Bézier-curve animations);
- Iterate while always asking Claude to follow the kit, ideally referencing the MD file in the repo — formality via the kit is the language Claude speaks.
Result: 80% of new UI features implemented in a few hours with zero manual tweaks. The output is a free open-source 2D PDF editor (Figma-like): repo https://github.com/AlexandrosGounis/pdfx, demo https://pdfx.zip.
