Jon Barron: quality/speed/cost gap for realtime video persists; LagerNVS promising
jon_barron · x · 2026-09-01
Google researcher Jon Barron answered whether interactive pixel generation at 30-120 fps will soon be affordable: no, not at reasonable cost. It's hard to pin down because models can be made faster by costing more, or faster by sacrificing quality — the quality/speed/cost gap can be moved around but persists.
He singled out LagerNVS's approach as very promising, notably because it uses 3D geometry (camera poses).
